That’s the way you spell “success”!
I arrived at CFBC and saw what I first thought to be Josh’s Honda. I thought, “What did he do with the bike rack?” I entered the box and was greeted by Honda-driving Nikki!
As others arrived, Nikki and I talked about the upcoming CrossFit Games Open and the online CrossFit Judges Course, which I competed last night. On a related note, I should wear my Stanley Tucci glasses more often. Judges are expected to judge and not cheer. I mentioned this, and Jill said, “That’s going to be difficult for you. You’re a cheerleader.” If that’s the case, I proclaim a cheeraucracy.
I’m a strong proponent of only having one attempt at doing any of the WODs if for no other reason than during an actual competition, well, you’d only have one attempt at doing any of the WODs. That and doing the same and often difficult WOD repeatedly may lead to injury. And boredom. And increased stupidity.
I did register for this year’s open, and I also activated CrossFit Surmount as an affiliation with a certified judge. That’d be me.
Nikki led us through a thorough and extensive warmup. I then set up my bar, with Jill and Kirsten to my immediate right. I felt empowered. Women rule!
I wore my Batman socks and CrossFit Gotham shirt. I looked spectacular. I rule!
2012 Open Wod 12.2
30 Snatches (55,75)
30 Snatches (95,135)
30 Snatches (115,165)
Max Snatch (145,210)
10 Minute time cap
I completed this WOD last year and only managed 30 snatches at 75#. Uhm, I’ve never snatched 135#. Ever. Never ever.
I determined that I would begin at women’s prescribed weight of 55# and then move up from there. I posted my intent on Facebook. Since it’s the snatch, I’m doing women’s weights. True story. Melissa commented, I think the women’s weight for that was 45, 75, 100. Unfortunately, I didn’t see this until after the WOD. Melissa was indeed correct!
Proceed through the sequence below completing as many reps as possible in 10 minutes of:
45 pound Snatch, 30 reps
75 pound Snatch, 30 reps
100 pound Snatch, 30 reps
120 pound Snatch, as many reps as possible
Oh, well, it worked out for the best. Did I mention that I recorded the WOD? I did.
For the first time ever, I used a 35# bar. And it was good. I began with 55# and completed 15 unbroken and then remaining 15 in reps of 5. I increased the weight to 75#. And I took my time doing so. I completed 30 reps in as many as 3 unbroken and in as few as 1 rep at a time. Yup, just 1 rep.
Unfortunately, 10 minutes had not elapsed. The only available plates were 10s, so I increased the weight to 95#. One failed attempt. Ouch. One successful snatch. Yay! Another failed attempt. Ouch. With 7 seconds still remaining, I didn’t attempt another snatch.
I. Was. Done.
I proclaimed, “Doing that many snatches has turned me gay!”
