Friday the 13th

1467237_589871631078162_638733539_nI worked out at 9:30, and it was good. It was my last workout as a 40-something-year-old.

EMOTM for 10 minutes
Max # ring dips
Max # medicine ball cleans (20#)
Alternate activities each minute

I set a goal to average both 20 ring dips and medicine ball cleans a minute. I came close to achieving that goal. I completed 20, 20, 20, 19 & 18 ring dips and 24, 21, 21, 20, & 20 med ball cleans. The number of med ball cleans decreased as I had less time to recover after completing ring dips — often taking the full 60 seconds to complete all reps. That’s 97 ring dips and 106 med ball cleans. My legs were toast. Uhm, and so were my arms.

I rested as long as it took to put on weightlifting shoes and re-set clock.

EMOTM for 10 minutes
Max #/leg pistols
Max time headstand/handstand hold
Alternate activities each minute

I attempted handstand hold, but my right wrist is still bothering me. I completed headstand holds instead. Holding a headstand for a minute isn’t much of a challenge — unless I’m wearing weightlifting shoes, that is! The shoes really threw off my balance. My goal was to complete an even number of pistols per leg each round, and I did just that, completing 6/leg/round. I usually had 10 to 15 seconds of rest before setting up headstand; thus, I was full extending at the top of each minute. I completed 30/leg pistols and held the headstands for 5 accumulated minutes.

A non-CrossFit detour.

Yesterday, I led an all-day Presentational Speaking workshop for WasteZero, co-owned by former owners of the company where I was most recently employed (and RIFfed). The meeting was held at the Embassy Suites, that just happens to be located right beside the office where I used to work. Thus, it felt like I was “driving” to work that morning.

And I didn’t like it.

I didn’t like driving by the building, and I’m not quite sure what emotions I felt as doing so. Contempt? Relief? Sadness? Joy? I only knew that I had no desire to go back. My life has changed so dramatically in the past year, and I’m very happy with the journey I’m currently taking.

Teaching Presentational Speaking comes very easily to me, as well it should. I’ve been doing so for the past 25 years. Yup, half of my life. The training went very well, it was very well received, and I may be invited to provide additional training.

But I’d much rather be coaching CrossFit.
