I coached at 6, took Luke for a 2.25-mile walk at 7, and worked out at 8:30. I had promised Jaclyn that I’d spot her for bench press, but I didn’t. Want to know why? Read on.
“Lynne”
5 rounds not for time
As many reps as possible
Maximum number of bodyweight bench presses
Maximum number of pull-ups
I completed this workout a little over a year ago with a score of 145 reps. It should come as no surprise that my goal was to achieve a new PR.
I weighed myself this morning, and even after drinking a couple cups of coffee I still weighed a mere 142#.
Jaclyn spotted for me (and often watched me complete pull-ups as well). Thanks, Jaclyn! I recorded previous reps on sticky note so as to better gauge performance throughout the workout.
Last year
BP: 10, 8, 8, 7, 6
PU: 25, 22, 20, 20, 20
I completed a minimum of 1 additional rep each round. ‘Twas a struggle to do, particularly last round.
Today
BP: 14, 12, 10, 8, 7
PU: 30, 27, 23, 22, 21
Yup, 14 bodyweight bench presses — the highest number of reps at bodyweight that I’ve ever completed. Yup, 30 unbroken pull-ups, although I did briefly pause at full extension between the 29th and 30th reps. I didn’t, however, drop from the bar.
My forearms were “swolt.” (See picture above.)
I was gasping for air at the end of every round; thus, I wasn’t able to spot for Jaclyn. Coach Liz was kind enough to do so.
I added up my score after the 4th round and realized that I had already achieved a PR by 2 reps. Yay! I thought, “Shit, this is going to be much more difficult next year when I have to beat this year’s PR.” I didn’t, however, sandbag the last round. Yay for me!
A very strange thing happened today. I do recall chalking my hands before the final round of pull-ups. I don’t, however, recall feeling my right hand tear, but tear it did. And very badly. Dammit. This hasn’t happened in years.
I completed 174 reps, a PR by 28 reps. Again, yay for me!
