At Coach Jen’s suggestion, the coaches meet the first Monday of the month to work out together, with one coach in charge of programming and leading the session. As it was Coach Jen’s suggestion, she got to lead the first session. As Coach Jen programmed the workout, I knew it would include cleans.
4RFT
20 cleans (135/95)
5 HSPUs
20 GHD or Abmat sit-ups
10 ring dips
As I had already completed 10 cleans, 20 thrusters, 30 power jerks, 40 box jumps, and 50 forward rolls + burpees earlier today, I seriously considered going lighter with cleans. I put 95# plates on the bar, then added 2 10s on both sides, you know, so I could drop the weight if needed. I even went so far as to add both rubber and metal, as metal plates are much easier to pull off of the bar.
Coach Jen let us know that there was a 20-minute time cap. I seriously doubted that I’d be able to finish within that time. The clock counted down and we began our cleans.
And I was the last person to finish. Yup, Jeff (of course), Nick, Doza, Marni, and Deborah all completed 20 cleans before I did. Yet I wasn’t the least bit concerned. Uhm, I knew I could quickly completed 5 HSPUs, 20 sit-ups, and 10 ring dips. Yup, I was the first to complete the 1st round.
I completed GHD sit-ups the 2nd and last rounds, as we were sharing machines. I completed all rounds of HSPUs, ring dips, and even GHD sit-ups in unbroken reps.
But damn, girl, did those cleans took me a long time to complete. Uhm, full squat cleans at 95% of my bodyweight are tough, particularly when one is completing 80 reps. Eighty reps! The very last 3 reps were tough, I tell you, tough.
Time = 17:59
I was pleased with my performance, as I worked to the best of my ability, I had no failed reps, and I set my ego aside.
