Under the weather

photoAs the title suggests, I’m still feeling somewhat under the weather. The expression “under the weather” is believed to have been coined by sailors. When men were sick, they would rest below deck and thus were literally “under” the weather on deck. Feel smarter now? You should.

Jeff and I co-coached the 8:45 am session, attended by the always delightful Evelyn and Thom. As we were both coaching, we were both also to complete strength, with Jeff working on snatch while I attempted to conquer the overhead squat.

Strength
OHS or Snatch
5 reps @75%, 3 @ 85, & 1 @ 95% of 1RM

I completed sets @ 100, 105, & 110#. The last OHS felt the best, so that’s a good sign, right?

Jeff coached the metcon, so I got to work out with Evelyn and Thom. Good times!

Conditioning
17-minute total
AMRAP
8 box steps holding KBs, 24″ box
4 burpees
8 KB goblet squats
4 burpees

Minute – work/rest
0 – 6 work
6 – 7 rest
7 – 12 work
12 – 13 rest
13 – 17 work

I held 2, 35# KBs for box steps and held 1, 35# KB for goblet squats. As I didn’t want to overdo it, I worked at a steady pace.

As I knew going into this, box steps were miserable. I grunted loudly, and offer no apologies. Burpees were a welcome relief. I kid you not. Uhm, did I mention that I had completed 200 box jumps yesterday? Did I? Well, did I?

I was 2 burpees shy of a round before both the first and second 1-minute rests.

I often think about kissing the top of Amy Scott’s head.

I completed 9 rounds + 6 box steps. I was spent.

There was a very large crowd at both the 10 am and Community WODs. It’s hard to believe, but CFS has only been open 3 months today.
